Math:  The grade 5's have been exploring attributes of shapes and various quadrilaterals, and learning lots of new vocabulary including: parallel, perpendicular, horizontal, vertical, right angle, rhombus and parallelogram.

The grade 4's have wrapped up their multiplication and division unit, and are encouraged to continue practising their basic facts.  Later this week we began learning how to organize information on pictographs.

In social studies we have been learning about our government system in Canada.  We researched political parties, watched a video about democracy, and distinguished between federal, provincial, municipal, and Aboriginal government responsibilities.  Yesterday, each student wore a glow stick that symbolized a certain political party.  We visualized different government positions as students played the roles of MP's, senators, ministers, and the prime minister.  

Some senators were chosen by previous prime ministers (myself), and some were chosen by the current prime minister.

Since the Green Party had the most MP's elected, their party leader became the prime minister.

(including the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration).

We are proud to finally announce that Sam the Wolf was elected to be the class mascot!  Neevee the Caribou came in second with almost as many votes as Sam.  The Returning Officer and the Deputy Returning Officer carefully counted and tallied the votes, and filled out the return of the writ.
