Happy New Year! Students were excited to be back this week and sharing with their friends.
ELA: They wrote about a special event that they enjoyed on the holidays. These are mounted on our classroom bulletin board with a drawing to illustrate.
We began a study on plural words and the many different rules and exceptions that go with them. I have noticed in their writing that they need some review.
The first four rules we learned are:
1. Add "s" to regular plurals
2. Add "es" to words ending in -ch, -sh, -x, and -z
3. Some words that end in -f or -fe need to change to -ves or -fs like knives or shelves
4. change "y" to "ies"....when a word ends in a consonant and then y, but if it ends in a vowel and a y, then just add "s"
We will continue next week with a few more rules. You can help your child's learning by practising some of these at home.
Students read a book of their choice this week as part of our Daily 5, Read to Self and Homework Reading Program. Most of them are becoming passionate about certain series or classic titles, making their 30 minute daily reading a breeze! Encourage them to tell you details about their books. It's great to sit inside on a cold day and read a good book!
Indoor recess has begun! Students enjoyed getting some exercise with "Just Dance" videos.
Playing an addition/subtraction game The grade 4's will be completing their addition and subtraction unit next week.
Students learning about various sources of light.
Have a wonderful weekend!
