ELA:  We are building STAMINA as we practise writing and reading.  Through practise and guidelines set up, we are increasing the time we are able to focus on the task. We are now participating in four of the Daily 5- Read to Self, Work on Writing, Listen to Reading and Word Work (which is the study of words and understanding of them.)  We will be working on a list of words shortly that will come home as spelling words.

We are CELEBRATING!!  Our class has read over 100 books! That is a great accomplishment in just one month!! We will be having a Literacy party on Friday morning.  We are voting on whether we will watch the entire Muppets" Treasure Island" or play board games and watch only some of the movie. Our class is really enjoying listening to the reading of this classic, "Treasure Island"!

 

Math: The grade 4's are wrapping up their pattern unit by reviewing the concepts we covered and creating their own questions to challenge each other.  They will not have a test for this unit.  They will then start a unit on numbers up to 10 000.  The grade 5's are continuing to practice how to use a variable to describe a pattern or write an equation.  Both grades have been working on multiplication or division at their level, and graphing their progress after one week.

 

Social Studies: Students are starting a research project to learn the culture of a First Peoples community.  Students will also bring a few objects to class to represent their community and share them with the class during a brief presentation.
