ELA: We have completed our MYSTERY theme and enjoyed reading and writing them. Thanks to the parents who helped their child collaborate the typed final copy. They worked really well and wrote more interesting mysteries this second time.
Today we began a new theme focused around PERSUASIVE WRITING. Students will be learning how to write a personal persuasive letter and a business persuasive letter. They will read articles and texts to focus on finding the main idea and supporting ideas and how to include them in a persuasive piece. They will examine organizational patterns in writing and use strategies to write their own persuasive article.
A very BIG thank you to all of you for sending the school supply donations for the children in Nicaragua. God bless you!
Math: Students will be taking their 'pretest' on Khan Academy this week and will become familiar with the program. Grade 5's are reviewing multiplying 1-digit by 3-digit numbers, and will learn to multiply 2-digit numbers. The grade 4's are learning new strategies to multiply and divide, and will begin multiplying 1-digit by 2-digit numbers.
Science: Students are completing their research of the Hubble Telescope and the International Space Station. Later this week we will be starting a unit on properties and changes in substances.
