Dr. Albensi came to visit us this week and teach us about electrophoresis, a technique used to separate and analyze proteins for his research.  The students were excited to learn how to set up the experiment and had lots of questions!  Thanks Dr. Albensi!

Science:  This week we finished our human body unit.  Students will have their test results and their project marks by Tuesday.  I (Mrs. Gonske) told all the students that if they wanted to improve their poster (especially if something was missing on it) they could add to it and review it with me to improve their mark.  They have until next Friday to talk with me if they wish do to this.

Social Studies:  We are beginning our next unit, "Mapping Journeys".  We will start by focusing on maps and atlases, and will learn about the fur trade later this month.  

Art:

Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you enjoy your child's gift of a Fall  Watercolour painting. We had lots of fun making them and thinking about the beautiful nature God has made for us. We discussed what we are thankful for in our lives and had a great sense of how blessed we are. 

ELA:  Our Gr. 4-5 students have been doing exceptionally well in their Homework Reading Program, as well as reading in class time! The class read over 100 books in the month of Sept. alone! We celebrated with a party and are looking forward to our next one when we have read 200 books!

Our class is following a Daily 5 program in ELA. Each day we read and write with lots of choice to motivate our work. Enjoy these pictures of your child learning to build stamina and work in a more focused way.

Math:  This week we started our Math Workshop, which is organized in a similar way as Daily 5.  There are 4 rotations that students will work through in small groups.  The specific activities will change with each rotation, and we will also have large group lessons between rotations.
