ELA:  Students are typing their Animal Adventure stories in the lab.  We will have time for a couple of days and then it will be assigned for homework.  Our class needs practise with keyboarding skills.  I would recommend that they spend 10 minutes a day doing a typing tutor program to develop their skills.  They will need these skills more and more.  There is a suggested program on the blog.

Today we have new spelling words.  These words will be assessed on Friday May 10.  The theme is Rocks and Minerals.  Mrs. Gonske will begin that unit this week in Science.

We will be finishing the Animal Research Presentations this week, using our paper mache models.

Math:  The grade 4's have started multiplying large numbers.  As with adding, we are first focusing on the conceptual understanding of long multiplication and will later learn the short cut method of multiplying multi-digit numbers.  The grade 3's are finishing their multiplication/division unit, but we will continue to practice these facts throughout the next 2 months.  They will continue with a unit on geometry including polygons, pyramids and prisms.

Science:  This week we will start our unit on rocks and minerals.  Using clay models, we will first look at the difference between igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks based on their appearance and how they were made.
