ELA: This will be a short week. There will be no new spelling words.  Hopefully students will be using their "rock and minerals" vocabulary correctly as they write these words in science, etc. Your child enjoyed painting the pots and planting the flowers for you last week.  We hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day! This week in ELA we will be fine tuning our use of graphic organizers and practise generating ideas more fluently for writing. Today the class recounted their weekend in journal format.  We are making good strides towards better writing skills.  I was very pleased with the improvements I'm seeing. It takes lots of practise. We are looking forward to our Read-a-Thon.  The kick-off assembly will be on Wed. this week. Students will bring home a pledge envelope to raise funds for our literacy resources in the school. Math: The grade 3's are in the process of making 3D geometric skeletons of prisms and pyramids, and categorizing them according to edges, vertices and faces.  The grade 4's have been doing lots of long multiplication practice using different strategies.  Towards the end of the week we will start looking at longer division by estimating quotients to help us know if our answers are reasonable.

Science: We've had the privilege of having both Mr. Greenhill and Mr. Bishop come to teach us about rocks!  Students loved the opportunity to see a wide range of rocks, rock equipment, and ask tons of questions.  This week we will wrap up our rock unit by testing a variety of methods to prevent erosion.
